Kia Tasman

Kia Tasman represents Kia’s first entry into the mid-size pickup truck segment, aiming to compete with models like the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. Developed with significant input from Kia Australia, the Tasman is designed for markets including Australia, New Zealand, Africa, and the Middle East, with production scheduled to begin in 2025.

Performance and Powertrain

The Tasman offers two engine options:

• 2.5L Turbocharged Petrol Engine: Produces 277 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque.

• 2.2L Turbocharged Diesel Engine: Delivers 207 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque.

Transmission options include a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic, paired with rear-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations. The Tasman supports a towing capacity of up to 3,500 kg (7,716 lbs) and a payload exceeding 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs), making it a capable utility vehicle.

Design and Features

Built on a robust body-on-frame chassis, the Tasman combines durability with Kia’s “Opposites United” design philosophy. The cabin features a triple-screen setup: a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 5-inch climate control display. Additional amenities include dual wireless charging pads, a Harman Kardon audio system, and a foldable center console that doubles as a workspace.

Off-Road Capabilities

The Tasman X-Pro variant is tailored for off-road driving. It comes with 17-inch all-terrain tires, an electronically locking rear differential, and a 1.1-inch suspension lift, providing 9.5 inches of ground clearance. It can ford water up to 32 inches deep, ensuring strong performance in rugged environments.

Market Availability

The Kia Tasman will launch in South Korea, Australia, Africa, and the Middle East. There are currently no confirmed plans for a North American release.
